Safety & Race Rules

We want everyone to have an enjoyable and safe weekend, so to ensure fairness and equality for all participants, we ask that you follow a few simple rules:

General Site Rules:

First Aid: For any emergencies, please call 999. For minor injuries or issues, First Aid support will be provided on all courses and at the event village.

Conduct:  Competitors who, in the opinion of the organisers, act in such a way as to bring the event into disrepute or unnecessarily endanger other competitors or race officials will be disqualified and may be banned.

Dogs: Your four legged friends are welcome on the event field. We just ask that they are kept on a lead and do not enter the event marquee (where food is being served). For their safety in the hot weather, we also ask that they are not left unaccompanied in tents or cars. Unfortunately, they are not allowed to accompany you on any of the courses.

Fires: While camping stoves are fine, please do not use open fires or charcoal BBQs at the Event HQ or camping field. This is for fire safety.

Noise: We ask everyone to keep noise to an absolute minimum between the hours of 11pm and 6am. This is so everyone can get a good night’s sleep for the following day of racing. Please, do not bring private generators or sound systems.

Illegal Drugs: Illegal drug use will not be tolerated at the festival. Please do not bring and/or take drugs.  Any drug use will be reported to the police.

Race Rules:

THE GOLDEN RULE: If you wish to retire from your race or event, please tell a marshal, make your way back to the event HQ and let us know at registration. That way, we know you’re safe and we won’t need to send out a search party for you. If you come across an injured competitor you should assist in any way you can and inform the nearest marshal. We will ensure that a time adjustment is made where necessary.

Age Limits: For the Teddy Dash, there is no minimum age. The minimum age for the 5km event is 6 years old. For the OMM Lite event, which requires navigation and mountain skills, the minimum age is 14 years old. Finally, all other events have a minimum age of 18 years. Children under the age of 18 must be accompanied on-site by a suitable and responsible adult guardian.  The guardian is responsible for the welfare of the child.

Mobile Phones, GPS & Navigation: You must carry a fully charged mobile phone for use in an emergency and you may also wear or carry a GPS device (i.e. watch) to track your run (for your use after the event). For Grasmere Gallop competitors (5, 10, 17 and 42km trail races), the courses are fully waymarked, however, the GPX files are available to download if you wish. OMM Lite competitors are permitted to take a GPX device on the course, but they must not be used for navigation.  We rely on the integrity of our competitors to follow this rule. Solo competitors and at least one in each team must be able to read a map using a compass, without the aid of GPS devices.

Rights of Way: This is NOT an open access event.  All competitors must keep to footpaths/bridleways/byways. Tracker information will be used to check routes taken for OMM Lite and 42km competitors. For OMM Lite competitors, out-of-bounds areas and compulsory crossing points are also marked on the event map and must be respected.

Kit: OMM Lite and 42km competitors must carry or wear the equipment and clothing on the official kit list, which will be sent to you via email. This is the absolute minimum for safety. 42km competitors are asked to bring their bag to registration as all kit will be checked. For the OMM Lite, kit checks may be carried out by race officials at any time.

Teams:  For OMM Lite competitors, you can compete solo, or as a team of 2 or 3.  Teams must stay close enough to be able to talk to each other. All team members must visit each control site together carrying all of their equipment. If one member of the team cannot continue (e.g. injured/exhausted), the other team member(s) must ensure that they get safely back to the Event HQ, the 2nd/3rd team member may then be able to continue.
