Competition Rules and Code of Conduct
We want everyone to have an enjoyable and safe weekend whether you are running for fun or in it to win! To ensure fairness and equality for all participants, it’s necessary to apply rules. These rules, which are set out below will be STRINGENTLY enforced.
Follow the rules – everyone has a great weekend.
Don’t follow the rules – be automatically disqualified from the current event and potentially banned from future events.
Event Site Rules
- Dogs– Well behaved dogs are welcome to the event area but are NOT allowed to accompany competitors on the course or be inside the Event HQ Marquee or be left unaccompanied in tents/cars. They should be kept on a lead at all times.
- Fires– No open fires or charcoal BBQs permitted at the Event HQ/camping field.
- Noise– No private generators or sound systems. No unnecessary noise after 11pm.
- Illegal drugs – Illegal drug use will not be tolerated at the OMM Festival. Please do not bring and/or take drugs. Any drug use will be reported to the police.
- U18s. Children must be accompanied by a suitable and responsible adult guardian. The guardian is responsible for the welfare of the child.
OMM Lite Rules
- THE GOLDEN RULE – Once registered, competitors must report to the Event HQ at the end of each day and download by 17:00 hours whether they have completed the course or not. If this is not done the team is deemed missing and will be searched for!
- Age limits. U18s in a team only with a combined min. age 35yrs. Any u/18 must have a parent or guardian sign the form.
- Minimum age is 14yrs old. U14 and feel you have enough experience to compete? Parent/guardian contact [email protected]
- Teams. Teams of 2 or 3 are allowed if you prefer to running solo. Teams must stay close enough to be able to talk to each other. All team members must visit each control site together carrying all their equipment. If one member of the team cannot continue (e.g. injured/exhausted) the other team member(s) must ensure that they get safely back to the Event HQ, the 2nd/3rd team member may then be able to continue.
- Emergencies– If you have a medical emergency, you should call 999. For more minor issues or if you need to retire you must contact Event HQ on the emergency number provided on the map. If you come across an injured competitor you should assist in any way you can, please inform us on your return and we will ensure that a time adjustment is made where necessary.
- Navigation– Solo competitors and at least one in each team must be able to read a map using a compass, without the aid of GPS devices.
- Mobile phones/GPS– You must carry a fully charged mobile phone for use in an emergency, and you may also wear or carry a GPS device (i.e. watch) to track your run (for your use after the event) but these must not be used for navigation. We rely on the integrity of our competitors to follow this rule – unless we remove all electronic devices from every competitor there is no other way for us to enforce this.
- Routes– This is NOT an open access event. All competitors must keep to footpaths/bridleways/byways. Out of Bounds areas and compulsory crossing points are also marked on the event map and must be respected. Tracker information will be used to check routes taken.
- Kit – Competitors must carry or wear the equipment and clothing on the official kit list. This is the absolute minimum for safety. Kit checks may be carried out by race officials at any time.
- Conduct. Competitors who, in the opinion of the organisers, act in such a way to bring the event into disrepute or unnecessarily endanger other competitors or race officials will be disqualified and may be banned.
Grasmere Gallop Rules
- First Aid: For any emergencies, please call 999. For minor injuries or issues, First Aid support will be provided on all courses and at the event village.If you come across an injured competitor you should assist in any way you can, please inform us on your return and we will ensure that a time adjustment is made where necessary.
- Routes – You must stick to the marked routes. There are various road crossings/sections on the routes. These will be manned by Event Crew. Please follow the Event Crew’s instructions to cross any roads; they may need to halt your progress to allow vehicles to pass. There will be signs in place to advise of these road crossings, please use common sense when crossing or running on the roads. Please run on the footpaths where available. Please respect the landowners/residents and close all gates and DO NOT drop any litter on the route. There will be rubbish bags provided at all Drinks Stations. There may be stock on parts of the route, namely sheep and cows.
- Checkpoints –Please respect the Crew at the Drinks Stations/CP’s and help them to feed/water you and get you on your way quickly; they are all volunteers, and many are also runners/walkers like yourselves.
- Registration for Under 18sUnder 18s are required to have a parent or guardian sign for their race number and the Parental Disclaimer form at Registration; Parents should also escort them to the start line.
Parents/guardians remain responsible for their children throughout the event.
- Conduct. Competitors who, in the opinion of the organisers, act in such a way to bring the event into disrepute or unnecessarily endanger other competitors or race officials will be disqualified and may be banned.
- All Saturday Gallop Races, please don’t make your own way to the start line. We have police support to stop traffic on the road at the start of the event; it is a police requirement that all competitors are assembled beforehand.
- All Marathon runners, competitors must report to the Event HQ at the end of their race to return the tracker, even if you drop out on the route.
- Kit – Saturday Events -Bad Weather Kit. The weather can change very quickly in the Lake District, so we advise that you consider carrying the following in the case of bad weather; Waterproof jacket, not windproof or shower proof, hat and gloves, fully charged mobile phone.
- Kit – Saturday Events -Warm Weather Kit. Pease remember your sunscreen and possibly an extra drinks bottle if the forecast is for sun.
- Kit – Gallop Marathon Runners have mandatory kit that must be carried Competitors must carry or wear the equipment and clothing on the official kit list. This is the absolute minimum for safety. Kit checks will be carried out at registration and may be carried out by race officials at any time.
